Barry D. Predmore, Jr.

Barry D. Predmore, Jr., of Honesdale, PA died on March 12, 2010. He was the son of Jane and Barry Predmore, Sr. and beloved brother of David Predmore, Denise Yorn, Dawn Figura, Melissa Luland and Kristina Luland.  He adored his nephews, Patrick,Daniel, Michael, Zachary,

Preston, Kyle, and nieces Sageand Zoey.   He loved fishing, demolition derbies and being with his family and friends and will be remembered for his gentle kindness towards everyone he met.  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A memorial service will be held today at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 12:30.  The family will receive friends today from 11 to service time.  Private interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery.

 

Randall James Miller

Randall James Miller, 52 of Honesdale, passed away Friday night, March 12, 2010 at his home after a long battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by family who will miss him terribly.  He and his wife Anne Bates Miller would celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary on June 26th.

Born June 3, 1957 in Santa Anna, CA, he is the son of Albert and Lorraine Riefler Miller of Honesdale.  He worked for Pleasant Mount Welding before taking ill and recently received his Pilots license.

If he wasn't flying his plane, he was thinking about flying his plane.

Randy also enjoyed golfing at the Honesdale Golf Club.

He was a brilliant, fun, loving and compassionate person who adored his family, especially his wife, and was extremely proud of his children.  Randy touched many hearts and he will never be forgotten!

Fly high, fly safe and fly free.

Randy was a great son, loving husband, father, brother and Poppi.

Also surviving are his daughters Kelly Miller-Kelleher and husband Shamus of Honesdale, Sandra Miller and Mike of Honesdale, and Jodie Miller and Mike of Philadelphia; brothers Mike Miller of Delaware and Allie Miller and wife Jill of Hawley; a sister Tammy Langan and husband Brian of Moscow, PA; grandchildren Sydney Miller and Katlyn and Jack Kelleher; several nieces and nephews.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Hawley United Methodist Church by Rev. Martin Cox at 10 AM.

Interment will be private.

Olive Baldwin

Olive Baldwin, a long time resident of Honesdale, PA, died one day short of her 97th birthday on March 6th, 2010 at The Jewish Home of Eastern PA in Scranton, PA. Olive was born in Islip, Long Island, NY on March 7th 1913 to Julia and Anders Nelson, emigrants to the US from Austria-Hungary and Denmark, respectively. She was married to the late Randolph C. Baldwin, Sr of Seaford, Long Island, NY.

During the early years of their marriage, Olive worked as a supervisor for New York Telephone. Prior to World War II, Ollie and Randolph owned Randolph Dry Cleaning business in Riverhead, Long Island, NY.
After Randoph's return from service in the Pacific theater, they departed Long Island for Walton, NY.  In Walton, they owned a successful dairy farm and raised their three sons.  In 1957, the family relocated to Honesdale, PA and owned and operated Randy's Tavern and Bowling Center in Seelyville, PA. The family later moved to their home on Canal St. in Honesdale where Olive lived until her 95th birthday.

Olive is survived by sons Randolph (Randy) Baldwin, Jr. of Dunmore, Fredrick Baldwin of Honesdale, and Wayne Baldwin of Newfoundland, as well as John Stucker of Wilkes- Barre, long time friend and caregiver to Olive.  Olive was also dearly loved by her grandchildren Joshua Baldwin of central PA, Jennifer L. Baldwin of Champaign, IL, Katherine Baldwin of Hatfield, PA, and Ryan Baldwin of Abington, PA.

To her family, patrons, and friends, Olive was a famous chef, well known for her pies, chile burgers, and homegrown tomatoes. She remained an avid reader and card player until recent years when her vision failed. Olive was a confidante to many, and at all stages of her life drew to her lifetime friendships among individuals of all ages. Perceptive and passionate, she possessed a razor sharp mind that always manifested itself in her wisdom and wit. Magnanimous and selfless, Olive instilled in her family the values that defined her own life: a fierce work ethic and commitment to self-betterment, limitless generosity to all who entered her life; and a strong moral compass guided by respect, tolerance, and acceptance.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Jewish Home of NE PA where she was a resident for the past two years, as well as the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice who helped care for her in her final days.

There will be a private blessing service held at Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale, PA. Interment will be in  Glen Dyberry Cemetery.

 

 

William Nicholas Galasso

William Nicholas Galasso, 68 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.  He was preceded in death by his wife the former Arlene M. Kanarr on September 1, 1998.  The couple married December 9, 1972.

Born April 22, 1941 in Pittston, PA he was the son of Rose Yaletsko Galasso of Pittston and the late James W. Galasso Sr..  He was a graduate of St. Johns High School in Pittston, class of 1958 and in
1962 graduated from the University of Scranton.  He received his masters degree in social work from Fordham University.

Bill began his career at Catholic Social Service in Wilkes Barre and then became the Executive Director of TreHab at Scranton State Hospital.  He retired from Indian Hill Lodge in Narrowsburg where he was the executive director.

Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
Before taking ill, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an accomplished gunsmith.

Surviving are his sons Matthew Galasso, Esq. and wife Shannon of Hawley and Christopher Galasso of Honesdale; his daughters Lori Krol, RN and husband Kevin of Honesdale, Mary and Jannelle Galasso at home; sisters Madeline Solorzano of Shavertown and Dr. Gwen Galasso of Pittston; a sister-in-law Constance Galasso of Swoyersville; an aunt, Irma Yaletsko of West Pittston; his grandchildren Kyle, Lauren and Leah Krol, Noah, Ashley and Alyssa Galasso and Xander Nelson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son William Galasso Jr. and a brother James W. Galasso Jr..

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.  Interment will be in St.
Joseph's Cemetery in the spring.  Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale today (Friday) from 5-8.

 

 

 

Dianne Marie Barnes

Dianne Marie Barnes, 58 of White Mills, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Lackawanna County Health Care after a lengthy illness.  She was lovingly cared for by the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Born December 24, 1951 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of Thelma Aug Barnes, RN of White Mills and the late Glen R. Barnes.  She was a lifelong resident of White Mills.  She graduated from Wallenpaupack Area High School and was also a graduate of Lackawanna Community College with an associates degree in business which was a great accomplishment in her life.  She was employed at Cove Haven as a receptionist until taking ill.

She loved animals and the springtime when all the birds began to sing.
   She was extremely proud of her only child, Carey Lynne Counterman of Honesdale and loved her beyond words.  Dianne was delighted that Carey found an amazing partner, her husband Shane Counterman.  Together, Carey and Shane have a daughter Isabella Rose and Dianne's spirit will be remembered to her always.  She would have been overjoyed to know her granddaughter and have watched her grow up.

Also surviving is her sister Melody Gibbs and husband David of Unionville, CT, a sister Nancy DeYoung and husband Jeffrey of White Mills, a brother Gerard Barnes and wife Susan of White Mills and a sister Melissa Knecht and husband Kevin of Phoenix, AZ; her nieces and nephews who she loved dearly Corrin Gibbs Burke and husband Jamie, Justin Gibbs, Cassandra DeYoung, Eric DeYoung and wife Jennifer, Joel DeYoung, Nicholas, Jessica, and Meggan Barnes, Joshua and Olivia Varcoe and Tanner Knecht.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.  Interment will be in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

 

Mary Theresa Koropchak

Mary Theresa Koropchak, 63 of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 28, 2010 at home.  She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dennis Koropchak.  The couple married May 13, 1967.

Born February 24, 1947 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Cecelia Clemo Ham.  A housewife and mother, Mary also was a secretary over the years for several businesses, including Moore Business Forms.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Mary enjoyed gardening and planting flowers with her husband and loved animals.  Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Also surviving is her son Ken Koropchak and wife Lisa of DuBoistown, PA and her daughter Denise Regruto and husband Gene of Medford, NJ; sisters Margaret Palmer and husband Michael of Florida and Catherine Racht and husband Al of Tunkhannock; grandchildren Madison and Gavin Koropchak and Evan and Garrett Regruto.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at  Salem Crematory and a graveside service will be held in the spring at St.

John's Cemetery.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Kathryn R. Holbert

Kathryn R. Holbert, 90 of Honesdale, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Brighton at Julia Ribaudo Home in Lake Ariel.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lester L. Holbert December 26, 2007.  The couple married July 25, 1938 and enjoyed 69 years together.

Born November 5, 1919 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Bracey Polt.  She was a life long resident of Honesdale and the last surviving member of her family.  Katie was very loving housewife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed happy times with her family.

For many years she was a bookkeeper at Holbert Airport and also helped her husband operate Holbert Farm Equipment.

Kathryn was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a past member of Texas #4 Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary; Fraternal Order of Eagles #1858 and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her 3 daughters Kathleen Hunter, Mary Ellen LaPoint and husband Jim and Margaret Davis all of Honesdale; grandchildren Lisa Canfield and husband Lloyd, James LaPoint and wife Carrie, Jill LaPoint, Harold Davis II, Steven Davis, Mark Davis and wife Deb; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law Isabella Polt; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Leo, Jack, Vincent and Robert Polt; sisters Helen Kelly, Mary Martin and Regina Vannatta Potratz; sons-in-law Glen Hunter and Harold Davis and a great granddaughter Nichelle M. Canfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM.  Private interment will be at a later date in Indian Orchard Cemetery.  Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.

Robert Joseph Menotti

Robert Joseph Menotti, 52 of Honesdale, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at home.  He is survived by his wife of four years, the former Deborah Jean Joseph.  The couple married July 2, 2005.

Born November 2, 1957 in Honesdale, he is the son of the former Angela C. Doherty of Honesdale and the late Robert L. Menotti.  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1975 and in 1977 he graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with certification in Diseal Mechanics.  For 30 years he was a diseal mechanic  working with several companies.  Most recently was self employed and in the past worked for Woodbridge Builders, Halahan Enterprises, Keystone Landfill and Leeward Construction.

Robert was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 20 years, the Alerts Fire Co., and Fox Ridge Sportsmans Club.  He enjoyed golfing, hunting, being outdoors, playing cards and had a love of automobiles.

Also surviving are his sons Adore Menotti and wife Danielle of Honesdale, Nicholas Menotti of Honesdale and Dustin Menotti and fiancee Lauren of Forest City; brothers Terrance and wife Sandra of Cherry Ridge, John and wife Sue of Hawley and Martin and wife Kathy of Honesdale; grandchildren Emma and Blake; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister Julianna.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with The Reverend Edward 

K. Erb, pastor of Grace Episcopal Church officiating.   The family  will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to service time.

Robert M. Malloy

Robert M. Malloy, 41 of East Stroudsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home.

Born November 28, 1968 in Honesdale, he is the son of John and Rachel Turner Malloy of Honesdale.  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School.  Bob worked for 22 years at Caesars Starwood Resorts where he found many friends.  He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith.

Bob loved his time spent with his nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Nickolas, Emma and Alyssa Stumpo and Connor Ford.

Also surviving is his brother Thomas K. Malloy of Morton, PA; sisters Karen Stumpo and husband Richard and Susan Ford and husband Dennis all of Honesdale; his maternal grandmother Alta Turner; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

As per his request cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory and there will be no visitation.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Ronald Joseph Benson

Ronald Joseph Benson, 61 of Equinunk, died unexpectedly Monday, February 15, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Geraldine "Geri Lou" Guidetti.  The couple married June 19, 1976.

Born December 23, 1948 in Staten Island, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Ellen Raff Benson.  He was a graduate of McKee High School in Staten Island.  He was a US Army veteran who served in Vietnam where earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  Later he worked as a security guard at Willowbrook Center in Staten Island and then retired from Delaware Valley Job Corps in Callicoon.

Ronald was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in its Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.  A faithful man, he also was a member of the Order of St. Francis, Knights of Columbus Council 363 and Arise Jerusalem Ministry.  He was a past member of the Equinunk Fire Co.

He enjoyed his Lionel Trains and setting them up at Christmas, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.  Ron was also an avid avian enthusiast.

Also surviving is his son Joshua Benson of Florida; his daughters Jane Marie Skinner and husband Chris of Beach Lake and Marianne Benson of Equinunk; his grandchildren Gabriel, Camden and Tristan Skinner and Justin, Michael, Nicholas and Maria Benson.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 9:30AM.  As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  Interment will be in the spring.  Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday 3 to 6.

Sylvia Gibbons, 87 of Honesdale, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Gibbons.

Born March 8, 1922 in Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Vincenziuina and Corrado Rositto Calderella.  She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and later was the Head Housekeeper at Union Hospital in Bronx until retiring.

Sylvia loved her family and all their gatherings.  A fun loving mother and grandmother, she loved a good joke, playing cards, other games and watching golf.  She will be greatly missed by many and always loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Pat Carrier and husband Dan of Beach Lake; 4 granddaughters and their husbands; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale by Rev. Michael Lyle.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 to service time.

William (Bill) Daniels

William (Bill) Daniels, 70 of Equinunk, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Asera Care
Hospice at Mid Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  He is
survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Deborah A. Francese.  The couple married
January 18, 1980.

Born November 11, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Frank and Lorraine
Stevens Daniels.  He was a US Army veteran who served in Germany during peacetime.  After
retiring from New York Telephone he and his wife moved to Northeast Pennsylvania with
their daughter DJ.  In Pennsylvania, Bill enjoyed driving School Bus for the Wayne
Highlands School District, working for St. Vincent's School and teaching his cycling
classes at a local gym.

Among some of his favorite things to do in his spare time was to coach a Missy Softball
team with his daughter, watching the New York Yankees and New York Rangers.

Also surviving is his daughters Deborah Jill "DJ" at home and Laura Daniels Kile of
Carolina; a brother Lew Daniels and wife Lea of Long Island; a sister-in-law; nieces and
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Frank.

As per his request cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  The family will
receive friends on Tuesday from 3 to 6 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale. 
Funeral services will be private at the families convenience.

 

 

Esther Elizabeth Gay

Esther Elizabeth Gay, 88 of Honesdale died Monday, February 8, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  She was preceded in death by her husband John Gay on February 18, 1998.  The couple married June 8, 1968.

Born October 31, 1921 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Christine T. Kuhn Stegner.  A graduate of Honesdale High School,  she later worked for PP&L in Honesdale and then transferred to Harrisburg.

She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Martin and a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

She is survived by her sister Helen A. Stegner, RN of Honesdale; nieces Christine Hannagan of Boulder, CO and Patricia Grooves of Boynton Beach, FL; nephews Walter Hook Jr. and Donald Wilhelm; great nieces Lindsay and Gillian Hannagan.

She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth C. Carragher; a brother John H. Stegner and a nephew Michael Carragher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St.
Mary Magdalen Church.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to Mass in church from 9 to 10.

Emily Richter

Emily Richter, 87, a resident at Bethany Village, died peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born, November 3, 1922 in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Krempasky (Czechoslovakia) and Victoria Rose Buzawa Krempasky
(Poland) and raised in Cherry Ridge, where she went to school in a one room schoolhouse.  She belonged to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in White Mills.  Emily enjoyed a long, happy and successful life.

She owned and operated The Redwood Inn from the late 1960's until 1971 with her husband Charles Frindt and introduced the famous "Boston Bar Beef" to the Pocono's.  She and Charles were Pekiomen State Archery Champions in 1953.

For many years, the family gathered at the home of Emily and her beloved second husband, Gary Richter who died Sept. 29, 1988.  She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and was well known for making her own pieorgies from a recipe handed down from generations.

Emily's father, Andrew married 19 year old Victoria Rose, after his first wife died shortly after giving birth, bring his children to the family, Helen, Mary, her twin brother Edward and infant Martin, who all preceded her in death.

Emily is survived by her younger brothers Joseph and Andrew Krempasky of Honesdale and younger sisters Margaret Syrylo of Phoenixville and Ann Sak of New Jersey.

She was greatly loved by her children, daughter Victoria Murray Fritsch of Honesdale; son Charles Frindt of Tafton; and daughters Cheryl Cosby of Bedford Hills, NY and Kimberly Best of Waymart; grandchildren CJ Murry of Sandy, UT, Julie Murray Gilbert and Jacilyn Fritsch both of Honesdale, Jeff Frindt of Tafton, Carmen Cosby Smith of Wilmington, NC, Summer and LeighAnn Cosby of Yonkers, NY, Victoria Rose and Nicholas Best of Waymart.  Great grandchildren Alex and Kami of Tafton, Madelyn and Alana of Wilmington, NC and Alessandria of NY.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Cherie Gilbert, Certified Nurses Aide at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a life long friend, who took loving care of our mother and family in our time of need.  She will be greatly remembered.

Joseph Ronald Watson

Joseph Ronald Watson, 71 of Pleasant Mount, died Friday, January 15,
2010 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He is survived by his
wife of 45 years, the former Patricia Grace Rosemurgy. The couple
married November 28, 1964.

Born September 22, 1938 in White Mills, he was the son of the late
Ernest Sylvester and Elizabeth Anna Utegg Watson. He was a graduate of Hawley High School and later graduated from Mansfield University with a bachelors degree in Social Studies and Spanish.
After graduating, he taught History and Spanish at Damascus High School and later Wyalusing High School. After retiring, he was a substitute teacher in Susquehanna and Wallenpaupack Schools. He was a co-owner of Watson's Day Care Center in Pleasant Mount and Hawley.

Joe enjoyed hiking, spending time with his family, woodworking,
gardening, and traveling. He was well known for his infectious smile
and helping people laugh and enjoy life.

Joe was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Also surviving is his son Todd Joseph Watson of Hummelstown, PA; his
daughter Kelly L. Watson Cordaro and husband Joseph of Honesdale;
brothers Jim Watson and wife Jean and Marvin Watson and wife Gertie
all of White Mills; sisters Ruth Shaffer of Massena, NY and Ann
Sanderson of White Mills; grandchildren Joseph, Justin and J. Duncan;
nieces and nephews.

As per his request, cremation was held. A memorial service will be
held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church
at 2 PM by Pastor Ryan Kraus. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale.

Edward J. Moran

Edward J. Moran, of Honesdale died Monday, January 4, 2009 at home
after an illness. He and the love of his life, the former Avis G.
Judge celebrated 49 years of marriage on November 5, 2009.

Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the Edward J. and Sabrina J.
Jordan Moran. He graduated from St. Rose High School, Marywood
University and The University of Scranton. He served in the Army
National Guard for six years and was employed by Equifax for 50 years.
He was a member of St John the Evangelist Parish and attended St.
Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale were he served as a lector.

In service to others, he was a coach for Biddy Basketball and Missy
Basketball. He was PIAA referee, and volunteered his time to Meals on
Wheels.

His children and grandchildren were the light of his life and he
enjoyed spending time with them, attending their various events and
sporting activities.

"E.J." was a devout Christian, who lived out his faith through his
actions and deeds. He led by example, and instilled his strong faith
into his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he survived by four son; Edward "Ted" and
wife Bonnie of Tillson, NY; Dr. Martin and wife Colleen of Mt. Cobb
and their children M.J., Kaleigh, Brennan, Julia and Ava; Patrick and
wife Kathy of Carbondale; and Christopher of Honesdale; a daughter
Judy and husband Bob of Castleton, NY and their children Justin and
Sean; a sister Sabina and husband Joseph Moriarty of Ringwood, NJ and
their children Kathy Colucci and Joseph Moriarty; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister Mary.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Father Desam of St.
Mary's Church, Dr. Adonozio, Dr. Blomain, Dr. Holla, Ascera Care
Hospice, and neighbors and friends for their loving care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at noon at St.
Mary Magdalen Church. Interment will be at a later date in Canaan
Corners Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 5th St.
Bridge entrance, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Martin William (Bill) Shaughnessy III

Martin William (Bill) Shaughnessy III, 65 of Honesdale, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Ann M. Swiezbin.  The couple married June 12, 1965 in St. Mary's Church in Roslyn, NY.

Born January 22, 1944 in New York City, he is the son of Martin (Bill) Shaughnessy of Beach Lake and Ellen Shaughnessy of Waterhill, FL.  He was a United States Air Force veteran of Vietnam and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.  Along with his wife Ann, he owned and operated Shaughnessy Refrigeration, Inc. for 36 years.

Active in the community, Bill was a member of the Honesdale Golf Club where he was a past president and treasurer.  He also was the chairman of the Honesdale Golf Club 100th Anniversary - Centennial Celebration weekend.  He was a past president, vice president and treasurer of the Honesdale Area Jaycees and in 2002 was honored by the Jaycees as Boss of the Year.  As a member of the Jaycees, he was the chairman of the Bicentennial Project and in the summer of 1976 Bill coordinated the erection of a flag pole on Irving Cliff that is still being used.  The first flag to fly over the cliff was the flag that draped his cousins casket, Francis Andrysiak who was killed in action in Vietnam and flew in honor of all servicemen and women.  Continuing to show his patriotism, he also was chairman on the Honesdale Borough Bicentennial committee.

For twenty years, he was a coach for the Honesdale Biddy Basketball.
In 1987, he volunteered to accompany Fred Reisch, the Biddy Basketball commissioner, to Disney World and be his caregiver.  The basketball league raised funds to fly Fred to Florida to fulfill a life dream to see Disney World.  For Bill this was one of the most memorable times of his life.  In support of his children and all children in the community, Bill also coached Missy Softball, Missy Basketball and Little League for many years.  In later years, he volunteered as a ref for Biddy Basketball and Missy Basketball.

A faithful man, Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where he was a lector since 1971 and also participated in its Eucharistic Adoration Chapel since its inception.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 363 in Honesdale.

Also surviving are his children Brian Shaughnessy and wife Kim of Souderton, PA, Kelly Watkins and fiancee Kevin Bishop of Honesdale, William P. Shaughnessy and wife Sapna of Glenside, PA, and Maureen Kirchdoerfer and husband Justin of Fort Worth, TX; sisters Kathleen Bleier and husband Larry of Davie, FL, E. Patricia Snow and husband Todd of Hollywood, FL, and Monica Bender and husband Bill of Southport, NC; a brother Kevin Shaughnessy and wife Kate of Hillsborough, NJ; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy and the light of his life, John, Patrick and Amber Watkins and Lauren , Julia and Maya Shaughnessy; a cousin Charles Newell of Hawley; and nieces and nephews.

Bill will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.  He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who truly loved his family and his Lord.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9.

Robert J. Fox

Robert J. Fox, 91 of Honesdale, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at
Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. He is survived by his wife of 62
years, the former E. Grace Dirlam. The couple married March 27, 1947.

Born July 17, 1918 in Honesdale he is the last surviving member of the
Thomas and Clara Doyle Fox family. After graduating high school in
1937, he joined the US Army in 1942. During World War II he was a
apprentice embalmer for the Army. In 1946 he received an honorable
discharge after achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and a Good
Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

After returning he became co-owner of the Wayne Co. Candy and Tobacco
Co. Later he worked for Hussco Shoe Co. and retired from Wayne
Crushed Stone where he was weigh master. He was also Wayne County Tax
Assessor for several years.

Bob was a member and past president of the Honesdale Lions Club, a
member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and the Millionaire Paupers
Club. An avid golfer, he was a member at the Honesdale Golf Club and
enjoyed the 19th hole.

Bob loved his family and spending time with them and his dogs.

Also surviving is his son R. James Fox Jr. and wife Diane of
Honesdale; daughters M. Patricia Levin and husband Dr. Theodore Levin
of Denver, CO, Ann E. Augeri of Palm Beach, FL and Linda S. Tallman
and husband Thomas of Honesdale; grandchildren Melissa Moran, Adrah
and Rachael Levin, Jennifer Tallman Killam and Ryan Tallman; great
grandchildren Kieran, Lucas and Charlie Moran, Kadin Killam and Sophie
Golub; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers James, Joseph and Thomas Fox;
sisters Mary Monaghan, Alice Crawford, Claire Madden, Kathryn
Monaghan, Lourdes Hatton, Elizabeth Surdovel and Helen Sweezy.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem
Crematory. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 am at
St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. The family will receive
friends on Monday from 9:30 to service time in church. Private
interment will be in Darling Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling
Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Henry A. Hazen

Henry A. Hazen, 88 of Equinunk passed away at home on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.  He is
survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Rita E. Warfield.

Born May 28, 1921 in Sterling, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph William Hazen and
Nellie May Batzel Hazen.  He attended school in Lake Ariel and in Lookout.  A veteran of
World War II, he served as a hospital orderly transporting wounded troops by hospital
trains from the Northern Pacific across the United States.  He was a member of the
American Legion Post 765, located in Equinunk.

Henry worked for several years for Penn Dot and worked for Camp Equinunk over forty
years.  He was a member of Union Methodist Church in Equinunk.  Henry enjoyed the
outdoors - hunting, fishing, gardening, and caring for his yard.  He was a charter member
of the Union Lake Sportsmen Club.  Henry was a devoted husband and father.  He enjoyed
spending time with family and friends.

Also surviving are his sons Alan Hazen and wife Mary, Roger Hazen and wife Pat, Thomas
Hazen and Barbara; daughters Elizabeth Mosher and husband Stan, Patricia Hessmiller and
husband Tom; eight grandchildren James, Anthony and Matthew Hazen, Joseph Mosher, Ann
Mosher Schies, David Mosher, Joshua and Jennifer Hessmiller; six great grandchildren
Christopher, Katrina, Hank and Leah Hazen, Austin VanDunk and Nathan Mosher.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Minnie Branning and Jesse Bortree and two
grandchildren Lisa Hazen and Susan Hazen.

Funeral Services will be held at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on
Saturday at Noon by Rev. Wilbur Black.  Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in
Equinunk.  Friends may visit Saturday from 10 to service time.

Richard J. Scorzelli

Richard J. Scorzelli, 68 of Honesdale, died suddenly Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at his
home.  He is survived by his wife of 6 years, the former Catherine A. Kemmerer.  The
couple married November 10, 2003 at the Wayne County Courthouse.

Born October 22, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Angelo and Caroline
Gionta Scorzelli.  He graduated from Forest Hills High School and attended the Academy of
Aeronautics in Astoria, NY.  He was employed for 35 years at General Fibre Products in
New Hyde Park, NY.

Richard was an avid hobbyist; collecting sports memorabilia, coins and nautical items. 
He enjoyed woodworking and was well known to make anything from display cases for his
coins to arbors for his family.

He was an instant friend to many, and totally devoted to his wife, daughters and
grandchildren.

Also surviving are his daughters Laura Pugliese and husband Stephen; Debra Brady and
husband Peter; his granddaughters Danielle Pugliese and Nicole Pupo Brady; grandsons
Richard and Anthony Pugliese; step-daughter Tracy Grimsley Rader and husband Robert and
granddaughter Rebekah.

A funeral blessing will be held Saturday at 1 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.
Honesdale.  Friends may visit on Saturday from 11 to service time.  As per his request,
cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Charles Shaffer Jr.

Charles Shaffer Jr., 79 of Massena, NY and formerly of Wayne County
passed away, Monday, November 30, 2009 at Massena Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; two sons Charles E. Shaffer of
Youngstown, NY and Gerald Shaffer of Keystone Heights, FL; a daughter
Joan Brown; step-children Gloria Philips of Massena, NY, Glenn
Gunsauls of Woodbridge, VA and Kevin Strzalka of Massena, NY; five
grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one great grandchild; five
step great grandchildren; two sisters Naomi Drodz of Plainfield, NJ
and Mary Hafner of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Lloyd and Everett Shaffer.

Charles was born March 31, 1930 in South Canaan, the son of the late
Charles and Elsie VanSickle Shaffer.  He attended schools in Lake Ariel.

Charles entered the US Army in 1947, serving on the front lines of
battle during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged in 1951.

He married Ruth Watson Strzalka in December 2000.

Charles owned and operated a bar, "Red Goose" for many years.  He also
worked as a machinist for Rich Products in the Buffalo area.

He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed deep sea fishing.

A graveside service will be held at East Canaan Cemetery today,
Thursday at noon, with Pastor Mary Bryant officiating.  Arrangements
by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Peter M. Propst

Peter M. Propst, 57 of Beach Lake, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at
his home.  He is survived by his wife of 20 years, the former Janice
M. Panek.  The couple  married August 19, 1989 at St. Mary Magdalen
Church.

Born January 6, 1952 in Sayre, PA he was the son of the late Dr. Harry Deaver Propst and Amy M. Arbes Propst.  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School and attended Lafayette College and was a member of the Phi-Delta Theta Fraternity.  He was self employed entrepreneur in day trading and founded the Rorre Corporation in Beach Lake.  For 12 years, he was a member of the Wayne Highlands School Board and most recently was the board president.  He was also a member of the Wayne Memorial Hospital systems board and patient safety committee.  Pete was the past president of the Lions Club and past president of the
Wayne County Redevelopment Authority.  He was an active member of the
Republican party and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie
1858 and The Red House Hunting Club.

Pete was a friendly loving guy with a great sense of humor and very
dedicated to the community.

Also surviving is his daughter Allaina Kathern Propst at Bryn Mawr
College; brothers Michael and wife Nancy of Honesdale and Deaver and
wife Hayley of Hawley; a sister Dr. Sandra Propst Reidel and husband
Arthur of Palo Alto, CA; a sister-in-law Judith Bonanno and husband
Edward of Pottstown, PA; an aunt Lois Willerford of Columbia, CT;
nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at St. John the
Evangelist Church in Honesdale.  As per his request, cremation will
follow.  Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.
Honesdale on Sunday from 2 to 5.

Joseph A. Novobilski

Joseph A. Novobilski, 77 of Honesdale, died Thursday, November 26,
2009 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center.  He was preceded in death
by his wife, the former Evelyn M. Stephens who died Sept. 12, 2000.
The couple married Nov. 28, 1959.

Born June 5, 1932 in Whites Crossing, he was the son of the late Louis
and Louise Novobilski.  He was a US Air Force veteran who served
during the Korean Conflict.
Before retiring, he was employed at Agway as a heating technician for
35 years.  An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing and sharing his
knowledge of the game.  Joe enjoyed dabbling in electronics and built
his family their first color television.  He also enjoyed spending
time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joe was a member of the VFW Post 4712 in Simpson and St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Surviving are his sons Joseph D. and wife Karen of Honesdale and Barry
and wife Pamela of Bethany; daughters Angelia Petrosky and husband
Neil of Honesdale and Jocelin Akers and husband David of Clarks
Summit; a sister Mary Plevyak and husband Paul of Baltimore, MD;
grandchildren Ashley and Wesley Akers; Ryan, Cody, Paige and Logan
Novobilski.

He was preceded in death by a brother Louis Novobilski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St.
Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St.
Mary's Cemetery.  Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main

Wayne Wilcha
Wayne Wilcha, 47, of Honesdale died peacefully at home on Thursday
November 19, 2009 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He is
survived by his wife, the former Maria Zorechak. They celebrated
their 15th wedding anniversary on October 8th, 2009.

Born October 9th, 1962, he was the son of Donald Wilcha, Thompson and
the late Mary Cicio Wilcha. He was raised in Mayfield and graduated
from Lakeland High School in 1980. He attended the University of
Scranton and graduated on the Dean's list in 1984 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Accounting and with honors from the Pennsylvania
Banker?s Association Central School of Trustees. He was a member of
the American and Pennsylvania Institutes? for Certified Public
Accountants and worked for the past 12 years at the Wayne Bank where
he was Senior Vice President of the Wealth Management and Trust
Department. Wayne dedicated much of his free time to various
nonprofit agencies, among them; while residing in Mayfield he was a
former chairperson for the Mayfield zoning Board and the Treasurer of
the Mayfield Lions Club. After relocating to Honesdale he was former
Treasurer of Lacawac Sanctuary, a member of the Honesdale Lions Club,
past President of the Wayne County Historical Society, Treasurer of
the Knights of Columbus, former board member at Wayne Memorial
Hospital, he sat on the Financial Council of St. John the Evangelist
Church, was a member of the Corporate Fiduciaries Group III, the
American Bankers Association and was a member of the Honesdale Golf
Club.

Wayne was a loving and devoted husband who married his soul mate,
Maria, the love of his life. He was a man dedicated to his family,
friends and his faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family,
friends and his dogs: Rascal, Tigger and Winnie.

Surviving are his sisters: Wendy Mitchko, Jessup and Linda Canevari
and husband Joe Canevari, Peckville. Nephews: Joseph Canevari Jr.,
John Eric Mitchko, Corey Mitchko, Kyle Canevari and Antonio Zini. A
Niece, Rose Zini, Brother in Law, Leo Zini, Mother and Father in law,
Edward and Betty Zorechak, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Michele Zini and an infant
brother and sister.

In accordance with Wayne?s request there will be no viewing. A
celebratory mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24th,
at St John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale with the family accepting
greetings from family and friends beginning at 9 to service time.

Stephen Mootha

Stephen Mootha, 92, of Honesdale passed away on Monday, November 9,
2009 after a brief stay at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. Born
June 15, 1917 in Simpson, Pa, he was the son of the late Newsey and
Ksenia Muta. He was born and raised on his family's farm and worked
there until joining the United States Navy. He proudly served during
World War II from 1943- 1945.

He was a proud member of the Major David McKelvey Peterson American
Legion Post #254 of Honesdale since 1948. He served as Commander of
Post #254 for 43 years as well as District 15 Deputy Commander for 18
years. He was active in many programs including sending high school
youth to the Keystone Boys State and the State Police Youth Camp. He
was also given the honor of presenting citizenship certificates to
middle school students.

In 1950, he joined the Hose Company #1 fire department. There he
served as President for 5 years and remained a lifelong member.
Steve's service in WWII, along with his pride in our country and the
town, is what led him to chairing the Memorial Day parades for many
years. He enjoyed sharing his patriotism and love of parades. Upon his return from the Navy, he owned and ran a restaurant and boarding house where he rented and served meals to the State Police until they built their new barracks. He later owned a second
restaurant on Main Street. After selling off the business, he went to
work as a service mechanic for Eddie Narvid Oldsmobile, where he
enjoyed fixing cars for 30 years. Steve later joined his nephew at R&M
motors until his retirement. He also began working at Jennings Jewelers in 1950. There he repaired jewelry, fixed watches, engraved many gift items, and assisted Bob
with his photography. Bob and Steve have remained best friends ever
since.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Diane L. Kean and Warren, of
Hawley; his granddaughter, Kelly L. Predmore and husband Bob of
Honesdale; his grandson, James M. Kean and Lily, of Shavertown, PA;
and his great grandchildren, Karlee, Kody, Alyssa, Kaitlin, and Gary.
Also surviving is his brother, Joseph Muta, of Portland, OR and
sister, Pauline Sardineer, of South Canaan, PA, and several nieces and
nephews.
Preceding him in death are his wife Marie Corby Mootha, their daughter
Christine Marie, and his 14 brothers and sisters.

A Funeral Blessing will be held on Friday at 11 AM at Hessling Funeral
Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with Father Edward Levandusky
officiating. Interment will follow in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery
in Simpson. Friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8.

Margaret T. (Theobald) Ralston

Margaret T. (Theobald) Ralston, RN, 87 of Honesdale joined her beloved
husband Ted in Heaven on Friday, November 6, 2009.

Born August 1, 1922 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late
Henry and Minnie A. Rose Theobald. After graduating Honesdale
Catholic High School, she attended a 3 year nursing program at Mercy
Hospital in Scranton. Margaret enlisted in the US Army on Sept. 1,
1944. Second Lieutenant Ralston sailed out of Boston on November 10,
1944 and headed for Germany. She was an Army nurse in the 63rd Field
Hospital of the European Theatre of operation. She was honorably
discharged as First Lieutenant US Army in February 1946 and later
retired as a Captain in the reserves.

She later moved to Cleveland, OH and graduated with a BS degree in
nursing from Frances Payne - Bolton School of Nursing of the Western
Reserve University in 1951.

Margaret was a register nurse for the Veteran Administration Hospital
on Cleveland's east side for 31 years before retiring.

She was a member of the Hogencamp/Schupper VFW Post 531 in Honesdale
and in Ohio, she was active in the senior center. She was a proud
veteran, loved to travel and enjoyed her painting classes. She
attended St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.

She is survived by her sister Ruth Niesen of Honesdale with whom she
resided and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem

William Frederick Johannes

William Frederick Johannes, 67 of Cherry Ridge, died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Community Medical Center in Scranton.  He was preceded in death by his wife , the former Shirley A. Reilly on August 6, 1997.
The couple married Sept. 21, 1963.

Born April 2, 1942 on the family farm in Cherry Ridge, he was the son of the late Jerome Sr. and Ellen Miller Johannes.  A dairy farmer his entire life, Bill also drove a milk truck and plowed snow for Penn Dot in the past.  He was a director for the Wayne County Fair for many years.  Bill was a member of the Cloverleaf Hunting Club, the Trotters Assoc., Farmers Assoc., Dairylea Assoc. and in the past was active in several pool leagues.  He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Bill's hobbies included playing Hozzi, "The Captain", pig roasts, and partying and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his sons Frederick of Carbondale, Kevin and wife Wendy of Honesdale, and Eric and wife Karie of Tampa, FL; a daughter Susan Barawdy and husband Bart of Cicero, NY; brothers Jerome Jr. of Honesdale and James Sr. and wife Patricia of Waymart; sisters Dorothy Tallman, Ellen Jaggers, Joanie Kennedy and Marie Spangenberg all of Honesdale and Christine Cavage and husband Valentine of Waymart and Ruth Robinson and husband Leon of Stroudsburg; grandchildren Jerime, Jacqueline, Taylor and Stephanie Barawdy, Jenna, Emily, Cole, William and Ashley Marie Johannes; long time companion Ceclia "Bunny" Savage of Honesdale.

He was preceded by his granddaughter Jessica Marie Barawdy; brothers Joseph Sr. and Eugene Johannes and a sister Kathleen Ruddy.

Carol Ann (Mecca) Kneller

Carol Ann (Mecca) Kneller, 63 of Honesdale and formerly of Old Forge, died Sunday, October 25, 2009 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.  She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Joseph A.
Kneller.  The couple married October 21, 1972.

Born September 23, 1946 in Scranton, she is the daughter of Olga Cruciani Mecca of Old Forge and the late Peter J. Mecca.  She was a graduate of Old Forge High School.  A housewife and mother, she was a school bus driver for 23 years before taking ill.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and attended St. Bernard's Church in Beach Lake.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.  Carol loved spending time with her family and friends, but especially her grandson Rian.

Also surviving is her daughter Amy Austin and husband Eric of Palmyra, NJ; a son Matthew Kneller and wife Lori of Gilbertsville, PA; a grandson Rian Austin; brothers Joseph Mecca and wife Mary Pat of Old Forge and Robert Mecca and wife Debbie of Scranton; a sister Jo Ann Mecca and husband Richard James of Old Forge; a life long friend Cheryl Varner of Lock Haven, PA; several nieces.

Myrna L. Bates

Myrna L. Bates, 70 of Honesdale and formerly of Middletown, NY died Friday, October 16, 2009 at her home.  She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin R. Bates.

Born September 14, 1939 in Port Jervis, NY she was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen Paddgent Cox.  She was a waitress at a Little Caesars Restaurant.  Myrna was an avid Bingo and Yhtzee player.  She enjoyed photography, sightseeing and animals, especially horses.

Surviving is her son Richard Bates and wife Carrie of TN; a daughter Lorie Bates of Honesdale; a brother Roger Costic of PA; a sister Shelby Decker of NC; grandchildren Melvin Lewis, Dana Jr., Jessica, John and Toni Bates and Keri and Jeri Decker; 3 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by  a son Dana Bates Sr.; daughters Cindy Lewis and Melinda Bates; a grandson Nelson Lewis Jr. and a granddaughter Helen Lewis.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A memorial service will be held at  Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday at 7:30 PM.  The family will
receive friends from 5 to service time.   Interment will be in
Middletown at a later date.

 

 

 

Michael Kenneth Landers Sr

Michael Kenneth Landers Sr., 64 of Honesdale, died Sunday, October 18,
2009 at his home.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Barbara Williams.  The couple married October 14, 1967.

Born July 15, 1945 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late James J.
and Eva Mae Gregory Landers.  Over the years, he worked at Wayne Motors, Darwar Silk Mill, Kinsmans and retired from Penn Dot where he was a welder.  He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish.
Mike was a "jack of all trades," enjoying fishing, camping, playing guitar and welding.  He was well known for making things like a guitar for his son and built drill that could drill a well.

Also surviving is his son Michael Landers Jr. and wife Tammy of Honesdale; a brother James A. Landers of Honesdale; sisters Mary Honcharik of WV and Kathleen Landers of Honesdale; brothers in law David and Roy Williams of Honesdale; sisters in law Darlene Hendershot and Pearl Myers of Honesdale; grandchildren Michael A., Stacy L. and Nicole L. Landers; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Allan Landers Sr. and a sister Suzanne Marie Duallo.

A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St.
Mary's Cemetery.  Friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8.

 

 

Margaret "Dolly" Mullen Rossbach, 93 of Honesdale and formerly of
White Mills, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at her daughters home. She
was preceded in death by her husband William F. Rossbach on December
21, 2002. The couple married September 16, 1944.

Born May 18, 1916 in Philadelphia she was the daughter and last
surviving member of Bartley and Margaret Kennedy Mullen family. She
was raised in Carbondale and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High
School. In 1949 she and her husband moved to White Mills. There she
was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church and the White Mills Fire
Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. A housewife and mother, she and her husband
trained horses and she was a member of the US Trotting Association.
Dolly enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family.

Surviving are her sons Charles Rossbach and wife Patty of Honesdale
and William "Bumby" Rossbach Jr. of Ballston Spa, NY; a daughter Cathy
Naneus of Honesdale; grandchildren Emilie, Marie and Renee Rossbach;
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Gus, Jack and George Mullen
and sisters Nan and Dagmar Mullen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009
at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will

Isabella Helen Kaczka, 73 of Lakewood, died Wednesday October 14, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following an illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph J. Kaczka on October 24, 1998.  The couple married December 19, 1970.

Born March 28, 1936 in Honesdale, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Elias and Laura Carey Hedgelon family.  She began working at Sherman Mills in Hawley and later retired from Kelly's Home for Adults in Narrowsburg where she was a cook.  After retiring, she moved to Las Vegas and later returned to Lakewood after becoming ill. Isabelle enjoyed arts and crafts and recently enjoyed ceramics.

She was a caring and compassionate person who was dedicated to her family.  She will be remembered for how she enjoyed life and how she took pleasure in the little things in life.

Surviving are her daughters Dorothy Backlund of Raleigh, NC, Bobbie, Kathleen and Katrina Kaczka all of Lakewood; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a  friend and neighbor Billie Prince who she loved and cared for as a daughter and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard, Robert and Donald Hedgelon.

As per her request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.

Mary Ann Hart

Mary Ann Hart, 72 of Bethany, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at her home after an illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Hart on November 28, 2003.  The couple married October 26, 1957.

Born November 13, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Josephine Fitzsimmons Shugrue.  She was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, class of 1954.  After moving to Honesdale, she and her husband owned and operated Hart's Cafe on Main St..  Later she worked at the Miracle Market and retired from the Wayne County Courthouse where she was the operator.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Mary Ann enjoyed following her grandchildren around to their numerous sporting activities.  At home she enjoyed cutting her grass and taking care of her yard.

Surviving is her daughter Marilyn Henderson and husband Richard of Honesdale; her sons James Hart Jr. of Columbia, MD and Edward Hart and wife Nancy of Honesdale; grandchildren Norman, Jessica and Christopher Henderson and Timothy, Stacey and Patrick Hart; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Edward T. Shugrue.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at noon at St.

John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St.

Helen D. Hook

Helen D. Hook, 94 of Honesdale, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at her home.  She was preceded in death by her husband Walter C. Hook Sr.

Born April 9, 1915 in Archbald, PA she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late Frank and Martha Gay family.  After graduating high school, she did beautician work with her husband and also worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital as a nurses aid.  Helen was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and also volunteered at the Earl Simons Senior Center in Honesdale.  She enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Surviving is her son Walter C. Hook and wife Darla, RN of Audubon, PA; grandchildren Christopher and Alexa; a great granddaughter Kaleigh; a niece and 4 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother Walter, Stanley, and John Gay and a sister Susan Wilhelm.

David L. Dexter

David L. Dexter, 73 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Hershey Medical Center.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Mary Kerl.  The couple married August 9, 1958 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.

Born October 10, 1935 in Honesdale and raised in Hawley, he was the son of the late Howard and Elsie Skinner Dexter.  A graduate of Hawley High School, class of 1953, he later attended Lackawanna Jr. College.

He was a US Navy veteran serving as a hospital corpsman in Newport, RI.  He began working on the Erie Railroad and later worked for 34 years at Katz Underwear Factory.  Later he retired from Wayne Highlands School District where he worked in maintenance.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Cricket Hill Golf Club for many years.  A sports fan, he enjoyed playing in the Wayne County Softball League and bowled in different bowling leagues.  David enjoyed relaxing by reading and was well known for his good nature sense of humor.  He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Also surviving is his son Thomas Dexter of Honesdale; a daughter Susan Judge and husband Kevin of Lansdale, PA; a sister Gloria Kostige of Citrus Springs, FL; grandchildren Stephanie and Andrew; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 11 AM.  The family will receive friends in church from 10 to service time. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Robert John Hafner

Robert John Hafner, 74 of Honesdale and formerly of Scranton, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, the former Margaret "Peg" Flanagan.  The couple married April 18, 1959.

Born September 30, 1935 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Carl and Genevieve
Conaboy Hafner.  He graduated from South Catholic High School in Scranton and attended
night school at the University of Scranton.  A long time resident of Honesdale, he worked
for A.M. Skier Agency for more than 40 years.  Bob was a member of St. John the
Evangelist Parish and until recently was a participant in the parish's Perpetual
Eucharistic Adoration.  He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council
363 in Honesdale.

He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing the game with either his wife Peg or his
numerous friends.  He was a member of the Honesdale Golf Club and the Friday morning
Cricket Hill Golf League.  In his younger days, he also had great fun coaching teams in
the Honesdale Biddy Basketball and Little League Baseball.

He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

Also surviving are his sons Rob and wife Pam of Newtown, PA, Mark of Cumru, PA, Chris of
Honesdale and Michael and wife Elizabeth of Mt. Laurel, NJ; brothers Joseph Carl and wife
Geraldine of Scranton, Patrick and wife Sharon of Tobyhanna; grandchildren Caitlin,
Tierney, Kathleen, Christine, Brendon and Robert Joseph; nieces and nephews and other
family members.

He was preceded in death by his sister Annjuan Hafner.

The Hafner family wishes to extend its gratitude and appreciation to all the staff at
Wayne Memorial Hospital, especially the doctors, nurses and staff of the 3rd floor.  Bob
could not have found better or more skilled people to care for he and his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in
Honesdale.  As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. 
Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.  Friends may visit the Hessling

Virginia Havens

Virginia Havens, 97 of Bethany Village, died Friday, September 18, 2009.

She was born July 17, 1912 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter and last surviving family member of
the late Walter Burr and Mary Grady Havens.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist
Parish.

She is survived by cousins and friends at Bethany Village.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Laura Farrell and Ruth Havens.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in

Joseph Harold Acker

Joseph Harold Acker, 58 of Hawley died unexpectedly Friday, September 11, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born July 22, 1951 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Harold B.
and Anna Bociarski Acker.  He was employed at the Human Resource Center in Beach Lake.  Joe enjoyed eating, bowling and was an avid fan of the World Wrestling Entertainment.  He was fascinated with space shuttles and on a trip to Florida he was able to attend a launch.  He loved outings with the Human Resource Center and visiting the family farm.  He was baptized at St. John the Evangelist Parish.

He is survived by his brothers Chuck and wife Kathy of Prompton and Pete and wife Annette of Honesdale; sisters Helen Martin of Honesdale and Mary Mandeville of Beach Lake; nephews Brian and Cody Acker and Joseph Mandeville Jr.; nieces Shana Acker-Delaney, Autumn Acker, Heather and April Mandeville and Elizabeth Bortree; aunts, uncles, great nieces and great nephews; and his extended family at the Human Resource Center.

He was preceded in death by his brother Philip; his friend Ruth Sailer; nieces June and Rebecca Acker and Angel Mandeville.

A blessing service will be held at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.
Honesdale on Tuesday at 6 PM by Fr. William Langan, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish.  Friends may visit Tuesday from 4 to service time.  As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.

Dakota Lee Williams

Dakota Lee Williams, 18 of Honesdale, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at CMC in Scranton from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born July 14, 1991 in Honesdale, she is the daughter of Tony and Amy Williams of Honesdale.  She attended Honesdale High School and worked as a waitress at Narrowsburg Inn and Main St. Cafe in Narrowsburg.  Dakota enjoyed being with family and friends, the
outdoors, and animals especially her dog Harley.  She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale.

Also surviving is her sister Alyssa "Gunk-Gunk" of Honesdale; paternal grandparents Russ
and Nancy Williams of Hawley; maternal grandmother Hazel Williams of Honesdale; paternal
great grandmother Marion C. Williams of Honesdale; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded by her maternal grandfather Vannie B. Williams.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran
Church on the corner of 7th and Church Sts. in Honesdale by Pastor Kenneth Buckwalter. 
Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.  Friends may visit at the church

Peter O. Kneier

Peter O. Kneier, 46 of Pleasant Mount, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer at his home.  He is survived by his wife of 19 years, the former Carol Gruszczynski.  The couple married June 16, 1990.

Born October 6, 1962 in Queens, NY he is the son of Ewald and Edeltraud  Krauland Kneier of Ridgewood, NY.

He loved living in the country and enjoyed working on projects with his family.  Peter was a true family man who loved spending time with his wife and children.  He was a township auditor and a member of St. Juliana's Church in Rock Lake. Peter worked at Sallie Mae for 18 years as a manager.

Besides being a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and uncle, he was admired and
respected by friends and co-workers.

Peter's life was his family.  Also surviving are his 3 beautiful children, Nicholas 15,
Morgan 13, and Ashley 11 all at home; his sister Christine Rom and husband Robert of
Glendale, NY.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Juliana's
Church in Rock Lake.  Interment will follow in St. Juliana's Cemetery.  Friends may visit

Anne V. Fiorenza Mullen

Anne V. Fiorenza Mullen of Honesdale, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in Lake Ariel.  She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald "Don" J.  Mullen.  The couple married May 14, 1960.

Born in the Riverdale section in New York City, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Joseph and Frances Corrente Fiorenza family.  She was educated in the city school system.  Upon graduating from high school she became employed as a clerical worked in New York City, until she left Owens Corning as an executive secretary to marry Don and move to Honesdale and become a housewife and mother.

Prior to her illness she was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and its societies.

Also surviving is her son Kevin of Brooklandville, MD; a brother-in-law Dr. George F. Cassidy of Ithaca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother and 4 sisters.

Rose D. Cramer

Rose D. Cramer, RN, 84 of Honesdale, died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Brighten at Julia
Ribaudo.

Born December 24, 1924 in North Adams, MA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and
Rose Dupree Dufraine.  In 1941 she graduated from high school in Dolgeville, NY and in
1945 received her nursing degree.  Later she worked at Binghamton Lourdes Hospital before
working at Binghamton State Hospital.  After moving to Delaware, she worked at a nursing
home in Smyrna before retiring in 1979.

Rose was very active in the Honesdale Senior Center doing crafts and playing cards in the
pinochle club.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Surviving is her son Stephen Cramer of Casselberry, FL; her daughters Rita Fletcher of
Binghamton, NY and Kathleen Goble and husband Neal of Honesdale; sisters Lorraine Bunting
of Milford, DE and Marie Pike of Ashville, NC; daughter in laws Patricia Cramer of DE and
Lori Cramer of FL; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great
grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons Thomas and David Cramer; her daughter Anna Quillen
and a brother Pete Dufraine.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. John the
Evangelist Church in Honesdale.  Interment will be Thursday at 11 AM at the Milford

Gladys M. Ritzler

Gladys M. Ritzler, 90 of Honesdale died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo.  She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Otto Ritzler Sr. in 1959.

Born May 5, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Margaret Coyne Rhodes.  A housewife and mother, she enjoyed crocheting and watching the New York Mets.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish.

Surviving are her sons Edward Ritzler Jr. and wife Rita of Pleasant Mount, Tim Ritzler of Honesdale and Joseph Ritzler and wife Patricia of Buffalo, NY; daughters Carol Ann D'Aquisto and husband Paul of Spring Hill, FL and Regina Ripper and husband Donald of Lancaster, NY; beloved friends Fran and Vinny Valenti of Bethpage, NY; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother Leonard "Sunny" Rhodes.

Olga Yadlosky Moll

Olga Yadlosky Moll, 91 of Honesdale, died Monday, July 13, 2009 at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard L. Moll who died Dec. 31, 2002.  The couple married June 14, 1941.

Born April 18, 1918 in Coaldale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Gratson Yadlosky.  In 1936, she graduated from Waymart High School and soon after began working at Katz Underwear Factory where she was employed for 46 years.  She was life long member of St.

Tikhons Monastery in South Canaan.  She and her husband enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the US and Canada.

She is survived by her sister Catherine Lilholt of Cinnamenson, NJ; a cousin and caregiver Marlene Smith and husband Donald of Honesdale; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Sophie Radice and Vera Polesnak and a brother Paul Yadlosky.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 AM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Friends may visit Thursday from 9 to service time.

 

Janice Arlene Iacovino

Janice Arlene Iacovino, 67 of Honesdale, died Monday, July 13, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick A. Iacovino on March
27, 1999. The couple married July 14, 1959.

Born September 15, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the
late Walter and Lillian Kjeldseth Olsen. For many years, Janice was a
devoted employee of Wayne Memorial Hospital working in the billing
department. She took great pride in job and was always willing and
happy to take time to help others.

Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed traveling and was well known for
her sewing and seamstress talents. She attended St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Honesdale

Janice was a loving mother and grandmother. Friends considered her to
be there adopted mother always looking to her for guidance.

Surviving is her son Frank Iacovino, RN and wife Mary of Honesdale;
her daughter Donna Cortright, RN and husband Michael of Hawley; a
sister Barbara Scocozzo and husband Joseph of NC; grandchildren
Joseph and Jeremy Cortright and David, Madison, and Lillian Iacovino;
nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. John the
Evangelist Church in Honesdale at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St.

Cornelius J. "Neil" Murray III

Cornelius J. "Neil" Murray III, 65 of Honesdale, died Monday, July 6, 2009 after a
valiant battle with cancer.

Born August 8, 1943 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Cornelius J. and Marcella
Ennis Murray Jr..  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1961 and served
in the National Guard Co. A 109 Mechanized Infantry of Honesdale.  Neil was employed as a
service technician at Agway Petroleum  Co. until retiring.

Neil was very sports minded and participated in many sports activities in the community. 
He played and coached for the Hesslings Softball Team forever.  Other activities include
the Halfway House and Leunes pool team, the Wayne Industrial Bowling League, and played
in the Wayne County Hozzie League.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles
Aerie# 1858, the Texas Rod and Gun Club which he was the past president and Road Warrior,
Honesdale Golf Club and St. John the Evangelist Parish.

He enjoyed trips to Ontario fishing, Myrtle Beach to golf and especially frequent trips
with the family to Utah to visit his son.

Surviving is his son Cornelius J. "CJ" Murray IV of Sandy, UT; his daughter Julie N.
Murray and fiancee Cody Gilbert of Honesdale; his former wife and long time friend
Victoria Frindt Fritsch; a brother James J. Murray and wife Joanne of Honesdale; a sister
Maureen A. Pykus of Cold Springs; nephews Billy and Tony Pykus and Taylor and Travis
Murray; an uncle Gerald Ennis and an aunt Jeanne Ennis, RN.

Mass of Chistian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist
Church in Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Friends may visit

Anna Lourdes Hatton

Anna Lourdes Hatton, 100 of Honesdale died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center.  She was preceded in death by her husband Charles K. Hatton in 1979.

Born May 29, 1909 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clara Doyle Fox.  After graduating from Honesdale High School she was a telephone operator in Honesdale until phones went to dial.  Later she was a nurses aid at Wayne Memorial Hospital operating room.

She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale attending Mass daily when she was able.

Lourdes contributed her long life to her daily exercising and walking.

Surviving are her sons John Hatton of Honesdale, Charles Hatton and wife Annetta of Honesdale and Joseph Hatton and wife Cary of San Antonio, TX; a brother Robert Fox and wife Grace of Honesdale; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Alicia in 1993, a grandson Craig Hatton in 1995; brothers Jim, Joe and Tom Fox; sisters Mary Monaghan, Alice Crawford, Claire Madden, Kathryn Monaghan, Elizabeth Surdoval and Helen Sweezy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale.  Interment will follow in St.
John's Cemetery.  Friends may visit on Tuesday from 6 to 8 at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

 

Roger Shephard Gibbons

Roger Shephard Gibbons, 66 of Honesdale, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife of 24 years, the former Tanya L. Miszler.  The couple married February 2, 1985.

Born November 27, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Helen Shephard Gibbons.  He retired from the US Army after 20 years of service.  He served during the Vietnam War and served several tours there.  Recently he was employed by Roadway where he drove truck for the past 23 years.  He was a member of the White Mills Fire Department.

Roger will be fondly remembered as a music lover, friend to animals and a first rat grandchild spoiler!

Also surviving is his brother Arthur and wife Phyllis of North Arlington, NJ; a sister Deborah Sheedy of Lakewood, NJ; a son Thomas Gibbons of Michigan; daughters Marlene Gibbons of Colorado, Dana McCormick and husband Michael of New Jersey; grandchildren Daniel and Brenna McCormick, Thomas Gibbons, Tara Roberts and Tabitha Norton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.  Friends may visit on Wednesday from 1 to service time.  As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Mary Jane Ann Kaub

Mary Jane Ann Kaub, 86 of Hawley, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor.  She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Emory Robert Kaub.  The couple married Sept. 15, 1962.

Born March 7, 1923 in Hawley, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the Thomas and Edith Wood Drake family.  She was a graduate of Hawley High School.  For 50 years, she was a journalist for the News Eagle writing "Kaub's Corner" column and also the Wayne Independent.

She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 16 years, "The Other Shop" in Honesdale and donated her time walking animals at the Dessin Animal Shelter.  Mary Jane was one of the founding members of the Recycling Center in Wayne County.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Also surviving is her brother in law William Kaub and wife Mary of Throop; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Welch and brother Maitland Drake.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.  A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley on Thursday at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Ralph Bartel

Ralph Bartel, 76 of Honesdale, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo in
Lake Ariel.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Carol-Ann Park.  The
couple married May 7, 1956.

Born Nov. 24, 1932 in Montclair, NJ he was the son of Frank Bartel and Maggie Kivel.  He
lived most his life in Watchung, NJ and Lavallette, NJ before retiring to Honesdale.  His
44 year career of being a machinist for the railroad included working for Central
Railroad of NJ, ConRail and NJ Transit.  In 1959 he was awarded the National Outstanding
Apprentice Award.

Ralph's hobbies centered around fishing, wildlife and many hours volunteering at the
Stourbridge Line Railroad.

Also surviving are his children Laurel Tysiak of Lake Ariel, Carol of Flagler Beach, FL,
Ralph Bartel of Belvidere, NJ and John Bartel of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren Theresa
Houston, Misty, Allaire and Heather Bartel and great granddaughters Taylor and Lilly;
serveral nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on
Thursday at 11AM.  Interment will follow in Lakeville Cemetery.  Friends may visit on
Wednesday from 4 to 7 and Thursday from 10 to service time.

 

 

 

Ruth Havens

Ruth Havens, 101 of Bethany Village, died Saturday, June 13, 2009.

She was born April 25, 1908 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Walter Burr and Mary
Grady Havens.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

She is survived by her sister Virginia Havens with who she resided at Bethany Village.

She was preceded in death by her sister Laura Farrell.

June C. Hayes

June C. Hayes, 84 of Honesdale, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Hayes who died
August 7, 2004. The couple married January 27, 1951.

Born January 18, 1925 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late
Leo and Mildred Goodline Fitzsimmons. She was a member of St. John
the Evangelist Parish and attended St. Mary Magdalen Church. She
enjoyed gardening, antiques, cooking and hosting parties. June was
well known for her sense of humor and her Christmas room that was
decorated year round. She was a loving Nanny and friend to many.

Surviving are her granddaughters Cathleen Hayes-Basile and husband
Nicholas and Pamela Hayes all of Bronx, NY.

She was preceded in death by her son Thomas A. Hayes in 1985.

Aileen Frances Martin

Aileen Frances Martin, 84 of Honesdale, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at home.  She was preceded in death by her husband Edward L. Martin Sr. on July 22, 2004.  The couple married Nov. 28, 1948.

Born June 27, 1924 in Harrison, NJ she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late John and Catherine Manley Slattery family.  She attended Our Lady of Queen of Peace in North Arlington, NJ.

A housewife and loving mother, she also worked as a clerk in the pharmacy at the former Rea & Derrick Drug Store in Honesdale which is now CVS.  Aileen was one of the founding members of the block party at St. Mary's Church, one of the original volunteers for the Honesdale Biddy Basketball League and started the Aileen and Ed Martin Sr. basketball scholarship.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, its Altar and Rosary Society and was an active member of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

Aileen enjoyed reading, movies, sewing, crafting and being around other people.  She loved and supported all her grandchildrens activities.

Surviving are her sons Edward Martin Jr. and wife Barb and James Martin and wife Beth all of Hawley; her daughter Kathy Firmstone and husband Roger of Honesdale; sister-in-laws Isabel Polt and Alice Martin both of Honesdale; grandchildren Scott Firmstone and wife Cindy, Jason Firmstone and fiancee Debi Miller, Drew, Colin, Whitney, Tim, and Josh Martin; great grandchildren Ryan and Colleen Firmstone, Brett Miller and Caitlin Marold; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Dennis, Tom, Neil, William and Gene Slattery; sisters Mary Rogers, Catherine Lomax and Rita Feldman.

William Arthur Fries

William Arthur Fries, 86 of Prompton died unexpectedly Thursday, May 14, 2009 at home.  He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Champion.  

Born May 22, 1922 in Aldenville, PA he was the son of the late Arthur and Reba Fitze Fries.  He was a US Army Air Force veteran who served during World War II.  Later he owned and operated a welding business.  

He was founding member of the Prompton Fire and Rescue Unit and also the Hawks Nest Rod and Gun Club.  Bill was a member of the Prompton Community United Methodist Church.  

Also surviving is his son Randal Fries and wife Sharon of Prompton; daughters Andrea Schweighofer and husband Joseph and Nancy Gilbert and husband Gary all of Honesdale; a daughter-in-law Lorna Fries of Prompton; a sister Mary Ryan of Waymart; a brother Robert Fries and wife Laneta of Aldenville; and the greatest joy of his life, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle, his son Lawrence and a brother Karl.  

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 3 PM at the Prompton Community United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Aldenville Cemetery.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Harold I. Parrish

Harold I. Parrish, 81 of Honesdale, died Wednesday May 13, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife of 11 years, the former Theresa Brooking.  The couple married May 9, 1998.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary V. Taninies, RN on January 13, 1994.

Born December 6, 1927 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Isaac and Mary Wagner Parrish.  He was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School.  Later he joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.  Harold retired from the US Postal Service where he worked for many years.  

He was a life member at Perkins Pond Hunting and Fishing Club, a member of Hose Co #1, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW and St. John the Evangelist Parish.  

Also surviving is his daughter Mary Beth and husband Dr. Kent E. Kester of Silver Springs, MD; grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Kester; brothers Charles Parrish of Honesdale and Ralph Parrish of Port Jervis, NJ; sister-in-laws Elizabeth (Parrish) Schneider of New Jersey, Su Ellen Tracey of Honesdale, Barbara Heiser and husband Keith of New Smithville, PA and Sara Redline and husband Blair of Jim Thorpe, PA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ray.

Regina M. Lorent

Regina M. Lorent, RN, 75 of Honesdale died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Henry T. Lorent.  The couple married Nov. 5, 1955.

Born May 17, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Josephine Farrell Boyle.  She was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia class of 1950 and received her nursing degree from Misericordia School of Nursing in Philadelphia, class of 1953.  Later she worked at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Franklin Hospital, Wayne Memorial Hospital and Dr. William Dewar's office.

During her recovery from surgery, she enjoyed the camaraderie at physical therapy with the therapist and other patients at Excel and Motion Physical Therapy. She cared greatly and loved her grandchildren.

Regina was a volunteer at Women's Resource Center and Communities That Care.  She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Also surviving are her sons Matt Lorent and wife Carolyn of Hawley and Darren Lorent and wife Penny of West Virginia; a daughter Lyn Wyatt and husband Donald of New Jersey; a granddaughter Skye Lorent of Hawley; a grandson Justin Wyatt of New Jersey; a sister Bernardine Robinson of Pleasant Mount; brother and sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Omer Suljic

Omer Suljic, 89 of Hoboken, NJ died May 6, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart.  He is survived by his wife the former Ruth Roehricht.

Born Sept. 5, 1919 in Yugoslavia he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs Ramo Suljic.  He was a retired union carpenter in New York City.

Surviving is his son Fred Suljic and wife Carmelyn Suljic of Lackawaxen; grandchildren Erik, Gregory and Lauren Suljic and Kerri Ann and husband Thomas Muller.  

He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Suljic.

Walter F. Eisele

Walter F. Eisele, 80, of Hawley, died peacefully Saturday morning, May 2, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Yazdzik of White Mills.

Born February 5, 1929 at Druskin Hospital in Manhatten, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Bertha Eisele.  He was a 1947graduate of Hawley High School and served in the Korean War as a sole surviving son.  He retired from the United States Post Office after faithfully being employed there for 33 years. Walter was a dedicated community servant and in 2000, he was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame where he was honored for being an exceptional athlete.

His greatest joy was his family.   Walter was a terrific husband for
55 years, father of six, grandfather of 13 (with one on the way), great grandfather of 5 (with one on the way) and friend to many.  He was a very special man, always providing direction and insights.  His tremendous love and experience always shined through.  His strength kept his family secure and his love kept his family warm wherever they were.

The family wishes to thank Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for the excellent care and St. John's Hospice for making his last 48 hours peaceful.

He was the proud father of six children:  Kurt, his wife Janet, and their children and families:  Jason, Polly, Connor, and Julia Eisele; Matt, Amanda, and Case Eisele; Nicole Eisele, her fiancé Chris Duda, and Zachary and Nicholas Eisele.  Karen and Al Giombetti and their children Adam and Stefanie. Brenda and Jimmy Watson and their children, Jacob, Jeremy, and Joel Watson, Jimmy and Jonell Watson and their children Isabella and Arianna; Mark and Nancy Eisele, and their daughter Christina Beauman; Eric and Donna Eisele, and their children Jack and Sam; Jenifer and Anthony Manzione, and their children Lucrezia, Dominic, and Alicia Manzione.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday morning from 9:00 ? 10:00 AM at St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Church in White Mills, PA.  Services will follow at 10AM.  Interment of cremated remains will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home,

Monica F. (Rose) Palka

Monica F. (Rose) Palka, 87 of Honesdale, died Tuesday April 28, 2009
at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband
Edward Palka who died April 3, 1989.

Born March 8, 1922 in Cherry Ridge, she was the daughter of the late
Joseph and Catherine Fey Rose. Before retiring, Monica was a
seamstress at Katz Underwear Factory for many years and in her spare
time she enjoyed sewing. She was an active member of St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and a member of Catholic Daughters of
Americas, Court St. Martin and recently received her 50 year pin.

Surviving is her daughter Sharon Palka with whom she resided; her
brothers Edmund J. Rose and wife Ethel of Cherry Ridge and John Rose
of Turbottsville, PA; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Verna Bonear.

Patricia Jane Eppolito

Patricia Jane Eppolito, 74 of Honesdale died Monday April 20, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born February 10, 1935 in Ridgewood, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Chestnut Hanrahan.  Pat arrived into this world during a blizzard and was delivered at home.  She enjoyed a happy childhood with her mother and grandparents.  Attending New York City public schools and excelling in swimming with the Police Athletic League, Pat won many awards and swimming medals.  After completing her education, Pat began a career in the insurance field but quickly gave up her working days to marry Richard Eppolito in 1955.  Pat and "Eppy"

welcomed a daughter, Jacqueline, now known as Jackie Murphy.

After many years as a stay at home Mom, Pat began a new career in the banking industry.  During her 27 year career Pat held many positions within the Ridgewood Savings Bank, ultimately holding the title of Mortgage Officer at the time of her retirement.

In addition to enjoying her work pat also liked to travel and took many trips, cruises and weekend getaways.  She frequently visited the Honesdale area and was determined to retire to Pennsylvania.  After retiring Pat made that dream come true and moved to Honesdale in 2001.

   In her retirement Pat enjoyed learning the local history on Northeastern PA, reading, doing crossword puzzles and dining out with friends.

 

She is survived by her daughter Jackie and one grand-dog, Ozzy.

 

Cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.  A memorial service will be held on Monday at 4 at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale by Pastor Rebekah Sweet of the Central United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 4.

 

 

Patricia Jane Eppolito

Patricia Jane Eppolito, 74 of Honesdale died Monday April 20, 2009 at Wayne Memorial
Hospital.
Born February 10, 1935 in Ridgewood, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and
Elizabeth Chestnut Hanrahan.  Pat arrived into this world during a blizzard and was
delivered at home.  She enjoyed a happy childhood with her mother and grandparents. 
Attending New York City public schools and excelling in swimming with the Police Athletic
League, Pat won many awards and swimming medals.  After completing her education, Pat
began a career in the insurance field but quickly gave up her working days to marry
Richard Eppolito in 1955.  Pat and "Eppy" welcomed a daughter, Jacqueline, now known as
Jackie Murphy.

Margaret E. Meszler

Margaret E. Meszler, 81, a resident of Carbondale Nursing Home,
formerly of Hawley, died April 2, 2009 following a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norman V.
Meszler who died Dec. 30, 2008.

Born December 6, 1927 in Tunkhannock, PA she was the daughter of the
late Philip and Mary Strong Coliskey. She was a kind and loving
homemaker. She enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting. She shared many
of her treasures with family and friends. She was a member of St.
Joseph's Parish in White Mills.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Bekele for the excellent care he
gave their mother. They are deeply grateful to the Carbondale Nursing
Home and its entire staff for the excellent care she received during
her time there.

She is survived by a son Philip Meszler of Hawley; daughters Rosann
Altier and husband Tony of Honesdale, Maggie and Barbara Meszler both
of Hawley; two nieces, a nephew and several cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in
White Mills on Wednesday at 10 AM. Private interment will be in Queen
of Peace Cemetery in Hawley. Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral
Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Tuesday from 5 to 8.

Leland "Pete" Harold Reid

Leland "Pete" Harold Reid, 81 of Honesdale, died April 1, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Nora M. Miller.  The couple married May 1, 1954.

Born January 6, 1928 in Paupack, he was the son of the late Charles and Louise Singer Reid.  For many years, he worked for Penn Dot and later retired from Wayne Highlands School District where he was a custodian.  He was a member for 45 years and oldest member of the Seelyville Fire Company.

Pete enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson Jeff and  square dancing with his wife.  He loved to travel, especially to Branson, MO and visiting his sister Jeanette and indulging in happy hour.  He was of the Methodist faith.

He was very dovoted to his family and enjoyed the family barbecues.

He will be sadly missed.

Also surviving is his daughter Donna Non and husband Paul D. of Honesdale; a sister Jeanette McCarty of Chalfont, PA; a grandson Jeff Sporer Jr.; a step grandson Brian Non; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Ronald and a brother William Reid.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at Noon at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with Rev. Patricia Hanley officiating.

Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.  Friends may visit on Thursday from 2 to 5 and Friday from 11 to service time.

Herta Lepp

Herta Lepp, RN 88 of Honesdale and formerly of Equinunk and Lindenhurst Long Island, died April 22, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a short illness.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ilmar Arved Lepp who died Dec. 31, 2000.

Born September 6, 1920 in Dortmund, Germany she was the daughter and last surviving family member of the late Hugo and Ida Froehlich Zikoll.  After school she began her training to become a nurse in 1938.  After World War II she started to work in an American hospital in Frankfurt, Germany and was only 60 miles away from where her younger sister Ruth Zikoll Hofmann was living.  In 1954 she arrived on her first visit to her American relatives living on Long Island on Labor Day.  Upon returning to Germany, she worked as a nurse in a hospital in Hamburg, Germany, where her other sister Else Zikioll Dutz lived.

On Memorial Day in 1957 she arrived at New York again, this time with an immigrant visa.  Her aunt Elfriede Recknagel owned and operated the Dock Casino in Lindenhurst, L.I. she worked for her aunt, and thereafter met her husband, Ilmar Lepp.  The two were married in 1959 and went on a honeymoon to Germany to introduce her husband to her family.  In 1967 she obtained her American Citizenship.  In 1971 she decided to go back to her old job as a nurse and went to school to get her American license.  She worked as a nurse on Long Island until she retired and moved with her husband to Equinunk, PA.

She is survived by her niece, Barbara Hofmann Vorndran, and two nephews Rainer Hofmann and Juergen Dutz; 5 grandnieces and nephews Bettina, Sylvia, Joerg, Tim and Sven all of Germany.  Her American relatives, a cousin Gerda Zikoll Cornell and husband Thomas, their children Thomas Jr., Michael, Matthew and Rachel all of Long Island and Florida; and Kenneth Mannale and Corinne Mannale Forrester and families.

She was predeceased by her two younger sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at Hessling Funeral Home,

428 Main St. Honesdale at 1pm by Pastor Alice Pedone of the Equinunk United Methodist Church.  Friends may visit from noon to service time.

   As per her request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory and her cremated remains will be buried beside her husband in Tallinn, Estonia.

 

Lawrence W. Brundage

Lawrence W. Brundage, 61 a lifelong resident of Honesdale, died Wednesday March 11, 2009 at the VNA Hospice Unit at CMC in Scranton after an illness.  He is survived by his wife the former Donna Klinkiewicz.

Born July 24, 1947 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late William and Audrey Rimlinger Brundage.  He was a graduate of Honesdale High School where he served as the president of his graduating class.  He attended the University of Scranton where he obtained a business degree.  Later he ran and operated the Larry Brundage Refuse Service for 15 years.  After retiring the business he drove for the Honesdale Transportation Service.

Larry served as an Alter boy at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale while growing up.  Many people knew him as the milk boy, mechanic at his fathers garage or when he was a Prudential Agent when younger.

He loved his family, friends, reading, golfing and most of all helping other people.  He was a loving husband, father, and friend who always made his family the center of his life.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Also surviving are his sons Dr. Michael Brundage and wife Christine of Waymart and their children Leah and Anna; SFC Jeffrey Brundage and wife Kristen of Texas; his daughter Amanda O'Rourke and husband Michael of Waymart; his sisters Sharyn Wertman and husband Jack of Honesdale, Patricia Roe of Lakeville and Mary Menotti of Honesdale; his uncle Henry Rimlinger of Hawley; his aunt Claire Meunch of Matamoras; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his brother Robert T. Brundage in 2002.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale.  Private Blessing service will be held Saturday at the families convenience.  Cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Albert J. Widmer

Albert J. Widmer, 88 of Honesdale died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Wayne
Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former
Johanna Putre- Troha on May 10, 2006. The couple married Sept. 13,
1995.

Born August 18, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late
Frank and Johanna Zekoll Widmer. He and his family operated Widmer's
Brookmeadow Farm. He worked and retired from the Pennsylvania Highway
Department. He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Coast
Guard and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 531. He
belonged to the Gottscheer Heritage and Geneology Association.

Most of all Albert loved people and traveling with his wife Johanna to
Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland to visit family and friends. He
enjoyed his 2007 Wayne County Tour of Honor visit to the National
World War II Memorial with fellow veterans.

He is survived by his step-daughter Katharina Bacher of Austria.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert Widmer and brother George Widmer.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem
Crematory in Archbald. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428
Main St. Honesdale.

Brian "Newt" Hafler

Brian "Newt" Hafler, 48 of Honesdale died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Wayne Memorial
Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 25 years,
the former Mary Anne Mullen.  The couple married Sept. 10, 1983.

Born October 22, 1960 in Honesdale, he is the son of the former Claire McCullough Hafler
of Honesdale and the late Edwin Hafler in 1997.  Newt worked at Woodloch Pines Resort for
16 years as a maintenance man.  He was a die hard fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago
Cubs and Nascar's driver Kasey Kahne.  An avid football fan, he especially loved watching
his children in high school.  He also enjoyed bowling and was in three different leagues
including one with his wife.

Also surviving is his daughter Dannielle and fiance Robert Gabell; his son Matthew and
fiance Jessica Barton; his sister Joy and husband Lynn Johannes; aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by mother in law Susanna Mullen in 1993 and father in law in
2009.

Funeral services will be Friday at the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale at 11
AM with Pastor Rebekah Sweet officiating.  As per his request cremation will follow at
Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.  Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St.
Honesdale on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9.

Teresa M. McErlean

Teresa M. McErlean, 73 of Pleasant Mount passed away peacefully March 8, 2009 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  She is survived by her significant other Willis Cudney.

Born May 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late William I. and Helen T. Schneider Connors.  She was a graduate of St.
Francis Xavier High School in Brooklyn, NY and  from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY.  Before retiring to raise her family, she taught elementary physical education at Hempstead School District on Long Island.  After moving to Shohola, PA she found great pleasure in driving a school bus for the Delaware Valley School District.  In
1998 she and Willis moved to Pleasant Mount.

Teresa was a strong caring woman who loved everything about the outdoors, especially fishing.  Among her many interest were crocheting, playing the piano and reading.

Also surviving are her children Kathleen Caligiuri and husband Thomas, Michael McErlean and wife Jana, Jane Harrington and husband Kevin, Margaret Ann McErlean-Hoy and husband Doug and James Stemmle; sisters Sister Helen Francis Connors, SC and Sister Virginia Ann Connors, OP; grandchildren Nicholas, Angela, Brenna, Elizabeth, John, Sean, Alex, Sarah, Madison, Lucy and Jennifer; her great grandson Kellan; step children Terrance McErlean and wife Anna and Joanne Kolakowski and husband Paul and their children Paul, Jacqueline and Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her son Timothy John McErlean and her brother William J. Connors.

A blessing service will be held Thursday at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 10 AM by Fr. Martin Boylan, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish.  Friends may visit on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9.
Interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport, NY.

Charles J. Morelli

Wayne County Sheriff, Charles J. Morelli, 67 of Honesdale died March 2, 2009 at Kindred Hospital Wyoming Valley in Wilkes Barre.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Genevieve Howell.  The couple married October 24, 1964 at St. Patrick's Church.

Born May 21, 1941 in Oregon Twp., he was the son of the late Guerrino and Mabel Fritzenger Morelli.  He attended Honesdale High School and later pursued numerous law enforcement courses including Dickinson Law School.  He was a correction officer from 1980 to 1990 at the Wayne County Prison and from 1990 to 2000 he was the Chief Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff William Bluff.  In 2000 he was elected as Wayne County Sheriff and has held the position since.

Besides being Sheriff, he enjoyed providing security at the Wayne County Fair, auctions, and parades.  As Sheriff, he cared greatly for Wayne County and the people that lived here and was very proud to be apart of the community.

A strong man with a caring heart, he was always trying to be of assistance to anyone who needed help.  During trout season, he would provide coffee for fishermen throughout the county.  He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

He was a member of the Sons of American Legion, Post 807 in Hamlin.
He and his wife attended St. Patrick's Church in Cherry Ridge.

Also surviving are his sons Charles and wife Melissa of Richmond, TX and Michael and wife Mary Kay of Sparta, NJ; a daughter Lisa Butler and husband John of Mt. Cobb; grandchildren Annie, Jake, Sadie, Jack, Mallory Morelli and Brandon and Bradley Butler; brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2009 at St.
Mary's Church in Waymart at 11AM.  Interment will be in the spring in Canaan Corners Cemetery.  Friends may visit the Hessling Funeral Home,
428 Main St. Honesdale on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9.

Kenneth Lawrence Frisbie

Kenneth Lawrence Frisbie, 88 of Hawley, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Wayne Woodlands
Manor.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Florence M. DeReamer.  The
couple married April 24, 1943.

Born August 24, 1920 in Hawley, he was the son of the late Charles and Grace Cooper
Frisbie.  He was a graduate of Hawley High School, class of 1937 and later graduated from
Bliss Electrical School in Washington D.C.  For many years he was a truck driver and
later worked at silk mill.  He was a caretaker for Lake Constance Corp. and retired from
Loveshaw in South Canaan.

Ken was an active member in the Christadelphian Chapel in Honesdale where he was the
Recording Brother for many years.  He loved all animals.  He especially enjoyed being
outdoors and the connection he had with wild animals.

Also surviving are his sons Gerald Frisbie and wife Joanne of Honesdale and Ronald
Firsbie of DE; daughters Janet Kinzinger and husband Bill of Ithaca, NY, Nancy Kutch and
husband David of South Canaan and Karen Frisbie and husband Charlie of Hawley; a brother
in law William DeReamer and wife Evelyn; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; nieces
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Robert Kinzinger; brothers Russell and Elson
Frisbie and his sister Thelma Phillips.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main
St. Honesdale at 11 AM.  Interment will follow in East Canaan Cemetery.  Friends may
visit the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7.
